Bolens 1050, resurected after 4 years
I finally decided to get this 1050 going again. i bought it a few years earlier… for get how much. maybe 100 bucks? 1966, FIrst year of the 1050′s. so it had a TR-10D engine, with a magneto, instead of a 12V coil. one of the people who owned it before me, painted the whole thing, and got a new hood for it, that said, G10, which was a way later model tube frame. same bassic thing, but with alot of minor differences, steering wheel, shifters, body panels, that kind of thing. so i put a 1050 hood on the beast, to give it some of its dignity back!
then it ran out of gas or something in the creek, and i left it there, for a long time. it filled up with water, eventually it got drug out, and the water in the block froze, cracked it. then i did all this. the clutch was stuck together, so it just drove in gear. i spent 3 or 4 hours, Taking the whole long driveshaft/clutch assymbally out, and takeing all the rusted solid parts off the thing, a wirebrushed, and greased everything back to normal. so now! it works. after this video. we were romping it too. but it needs some belts, its only got that one dryrotted one from the video, and thats gonna let us down soon i’m sure. its an excelent bolens now though!

If i ever come across one i will definitely pick one up. These old 1050′s weigh over 650 pounds, and though they don’t have as much engine HP as the eliminator, they definitely have low enough gears to pull just about anything. Just couldn’t get it going as fast

@lovesubaru222 lol well I will be honest, the real reason my truck sits outside is because its too tall to fit under the garage door opening. but gatta make sure you start it and run every once in awhile to avoid the engine getting stuck and make sure animals don’t get into it. tractors are sweet lol

@tractormandale But wont you freak out win you come back to your truck and it is all siezed up like that tractor??? because his was out there for two years not like mine i bought a tractor and i hardley used my truck anymore lol when i finely thought about selling the truck i could not start it up!!!!!!!

those are great tractors .. i have a bolens 2000 hydro eliminator and man that thing is unbelivable it is so strong YOU should buy one…….. with that tractor i carried subarus up a slanted hill with no problem …. i even tied a very heavy car to it and put like 4 grown man on it and gues what it acualy pulled it plus i even tried to carry my chevrlotte pickup that wieghted 3 tons it did not pull it because imagine a 150 pound tractor carying a 3 ton pickup

To me, that makes me like these beasts that much more, that they can take so much adversity, and still work.
Sitting in a garage, safely hiding from any test of durability Doesn’t appeal to me.
It does make them last longer for sure, But it really doesn’t earn them any respect from me.

how do you let these awesome machines get submerged in water for so long and stuff? dont u freak out about it? if i had a awesome bolens i wouldnt leave it outside like that. I park my 25 dollar snapper in my garage and leave my truck outside lol

@deaucey
Ah, really? Yeah, this is a 1966 Bolens Husky 1050. Wisconsin horizontal shaft engine, I wouldn’t ever trade one of these awesome very heavy duty 60′s tractors for a craftsman. These have actual clutches in them, with clutch discs. Very serious machine.
A governor’s purpose is so that when you put a load on the engine, it opens up the throttle, to give more power out to compensate for it, to keep the RPM’s up. Its goal is not to keep the engine from revving.
February 13th, 2011 at 1:51 am
@tommartyn i was serious its an older craftsman in the late 80′s or what its hood is square a twin 18 horse engine runs needs an exhaust and a battery no rpm govern or belt it all works its rusted tho the battery spilled and corroded it
February 13th, 2011 at 2:43 am
@deaucey
Yeah, I would guess so

February 13th, 2011 at 2:46 am

@AcaAllertor127
I like both the newer square hoods, and the older style rounded ones. the square ones are insanely stronger.
yeah, they are awesome. the Wisconsin engine espeically
February 13th, 2011 at 2:55 am
i like these 1050s with their squared hoods and nice 8 1/4 -10 HP engines
February 13th, 2011 at 3:39 am
i think its so funny that people get rid of old stuff like this to go buy something that is new and shiny little do they know they could be geting rid of something that could out last what they buying

at the front of the drive shaft forward. just keep taping it toward the front of the tractor, and normally that does it. some times we have to hit them really hard, and i’m sure its not too good for the bearing in the plate, but it gets it unstuck
Just make sure the clutch pedal is pulling on the clutch. you should be able to see the whole driveshaft pullback on that plate a little, and you should see things moving. If that doesn’t work, its not too hard to take apart.

@84400
Got me smiling thinking about a resurrected 1050:)
Most likely thats just what it is, we get it alot from going through the creek, then the tractor sits for a few hours, or over night, and the clutch rusts together a little. What we do is go to the left side of the tractor with a hammer, lay on the ground looking underneath,and with it running normally hold the clutch down with your left hand, and hit the metal plate
Thats awesome man!
Ah, the old clutch stuck together deal
February 13th, 2011 at 4:16 am
hey tom finally got that 1050 of mine running. I will be dammed thing runs smooth as hell. I replaced the points and that did the trick. Thing sat forever atleast 10 years but once i had em right ift fired right up.
I have no clutch tho. push the pedal and no disengagement. I dropped it in gear and the transmission works fine ANy IDEA? I honestly have never taken apart the clutch on one of these. You were right the Wisconsin is a great motor. I am gonna hang on to this tractor!
February 13th, 2011 at 5:03 am
ah god… sorry man. that sucks. Might be good now for taking into the mud and stuff
don’t have to worry about scratching it or anything.
